The country music legend Dolly Parton has died in Nashville at the age of 80. She had a 60-year career, writing songs including I Will Always Love You, Jolene and Nine to Five, and sold more than 100 million records worldwide. American flags are to be flown at half-mast for a week, and fans have been gathering in Nashville and Los Angeles to pay tribute. Tributes have come from figures including Elton John and JK Rowling, who praised her contribution to child literacy. A government-commissioned report has found that young people leaving care in England are about four times more likely to die young than those who have not been in the care system. Last year, 112 care leavers aged 18 to 24 died, with more than a third taking their own lives. The government says it is putting £25 million into finding settled homes for care leavers up to age 25. More than 70,000 social and affordable homes are to be built in England over the next 10 years, but charities say it is not enough to meet demand.
