New: The Saturday Five Extra

The programme opened with a debate on whether the Notting Hill Carnival should be banned. The Metropolitan Police have banned over 330 people from attending and will deploy more than 7,000 officers, following last year's event which saw over 500 arrests, mainly for drug offences, offensive weapons, and sexual assault. Panel members argued over the carnival's economic contribution, cultural significance, and the crime and policing costs, with one side calling for it to be moved to a more easily policed location.

A 41-year-old man died and at least six others were injured after a large metal support beam collapsed onto a crowd at the Big Church festival in West Sussex, prompting a full lockdown of the event. Seven more men were arrested in connection with an operation to disrupt organized crime following the A66 crash, bringing the total arrests to 24, as over 200 police officers were deployed to Middlesbrough amid fears of escalating gang violence after a series of suspected gang-related incidents. The UK is deploying a rapid deployment team to Nepal to support British nationals affected by devastating flash floods, where the death toll has exceeded 560 and 33 UK nationals remain missing.

New: Lee Anderson's Real World

The broadcast began with news that seven more men have been arrested in connection with the A66 crash, bringing the total to 24, as over 200 police officers were drafted into Middlesbrough amid fears of gang violence. A series of suspected gang-related incidents followed the crash, including a house fire that killed a seven-year-old girl and her aunt, a home ramming, and a stabbing, though police have not confirmed a link. New independent research was reported to have uncovered connections between grooming gang offenders and more than 100 convicted organised criminals, revealing 99 gangs involving 68 families and 87 instances of trafficking. A Christian festival in West Sussex was cancelled after a sign fell, injuring at least six people. The death toll from floods in Nepal rose to over 560, with 33 UK nationals still missing, including a 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy, while officials warned of a risk of further flooding from a newly formed lake.

New: Patrick Christys Tonight Late...

Hundreds of police officers from across Britain have been deployed to Middlesbrough amid fears of escalating gang violence, following a series of suspected gang-related incidents since Saturday. A wrong-way crash on the A66 killed two officers and five young men, and since then a seven-year-old girl and her aunt died in a house fire, a house was rammed, and a 39-year-old man was stabbed. Residents fear further carnage if the feuds escalate, though police have not confirmed a link between the crash and the later incidents.
